Ingredients:
For the Protein:
- 1 pound (450g) boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cut into bite-sized pieces
- 1 pound (450g) large shrimp, peeled and deveined
- 2 tablespoons Cajun seasoning (divided)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
For the Pasta:
- 12 oz (340g) penne or fettuccine pasta
- 1 tablespoon salt (for boiling water)
For the Cajun Cream Sauce:
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 medium onion, diced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 red bell pepper, diced
- 1 cup (240ml) heavy cream
- 1 cup (240ml) chicken broth
- 1 cup (100g) grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional for extra heat)
- Salt and pepper to taste
Optional Garnishes:
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- Grated Parmesan cheese
- Lemon wedges
Instructions:
1. Cook the Pasta:
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
2. Season and Cook the Chicken and Shrimp:
- Season the chicken pieces with 1 tablespoon of Cajun seasoning.
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the chicken and cook for 5–7 minutes until golden brown and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
- Season the shrimp with the remaining Cajun seasoning. In the same skillet, cook the shrimp for 2–3 minutes per side until pink and cooked through. Remove and set aside.
3. Make the Cajun Cream Sauce:
- In the same skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the diced onion, garlic, and bell pepper. Sauté until softened, about 3–4 minutes.
- Stir in the smoked paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Cook for 1 minute to toast the spices.
- Add the heavy cream and chicken broth. Stir well and bring to a simmer.
- Stir in the grated Parmesan cheese until melted and the sauce thickens slightly. Taste and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper.
4. Combine and Serve:
- Add the cooked pasta, chicken, and shrimp to the sauce. Toss to coat evenly. Let it cook for 2–3 minutes to heat through.
- Garnish with fresh parsley, extra Parmesan cheese, and a squeeze of lemon if desired.
Tips for Success:
- Use fresh shrimp for the best flavor and texture.
- Adjust the amount of Cajun seasoning to suit your heat preference.
- For a lighter option, substitute half-and-half for heavy cream.
Recommendations:
- Serve with a side of garlic bread and a crisp green salad for a complete meal.
- Pair with a glass of chilled white wine, like Sauvignon Blanc, to complement the creamy and spicy flavors.
