Ingredients:

For the Cake:

  • 1 cup (200g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 1/4 cups (250g) granulated sugar
  • 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips

For the Ganache (Optional):

  • 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream

Instructions:

1. Prepare the Cake Batter:

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is well combined and slightly thickened.
  4. Sift in cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
  5. Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.

2. Bake the Cake:

  1. Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly.
  2. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Avoid overbaking to keep the cake fudgy.
  3. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.

3. Prepare the Ganache (Optional):

  1. Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
  2. Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Let it sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
  3. Pour the ganache over the cooled cake, letting it drip down the sides.

4. Serve:

  1. Slice and serve the cake as is, or top with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Tips for Success:

  • For extra fudginess, slightly underbake the cake.
  • Use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips for the best flavor.
  • Add chopped nuts or swirl in caramel for a unique twist.

Recommendations:

  • Pair with a cup of coffee or milk for a delightful dessert experience.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
