Ingredients:
For the Cake:
- 1 cup (200g) unsalted butter, melted
- 1 1/4 cups (250g) granulated sugar
- 3/4 cup (150g) brown sugar, packed
- 4 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3/4 cup (75g) unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 cup (125g) all-purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup (90g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
For the Ganache (Optional):
- 1 cup (170g) semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1/2 cup (120ml) heavy cream
Instructions:
1. Prepare the Cake Batter:
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line a 9-inch round cake pan with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until smooth.
- Add eggs and vanilla extract, whisking until the mixture is well combined and slightly thickened.
- Sift in cocoa powder, flour, baking powder, and salt. Stir until just combined. Do not overmix.
- Fold in the semi-sweet chocolate chips.
2. Bake the Cake:
- Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan, spreading it evenly.
- Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out with a few moist crumbs. Avoid overbaking to keep the cake fudgy.
- Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely.
3. Prepare the Ganache (Optional):
- Heat the heavy cream in a small saucepan over medium heat until it begins to simmer.
- Pour the hot cream over the chocolate chips in a heatproof bowl. Let it sit for 2 minutes, then stir until smooth and glossy.
- Pour the ganache over the cooled cake, letting it drip down the sides.
4. Serve:
- Slice and serve the cake as is, or top with a dollop of whipped cream or a scoop of vanilla ice cream.
Tips for Success:
- For extra fudginess, slightly underbake the cake.
- Use high-quality cocoa powder and chocolate chips for the best flavor.
- Add chopped nuts or swirl in caramel for a unique twist.
Recommendations:
- Pair with a cup of coffee or milk for a delightful dessert experience.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days or in the fridge for up to a week.
