Delicious Marble Cake

Description

Delicious Marble Cake is a classic dessert featuring the best of both worlds—light, fluffy vanilla cake and rich, decadent chocolate cake, swirled together into a beautiful and delicious combination. This moist cake is perfect for any occasion, from birthday parties to cozy afternoon teas, and it’s always a crowd-pleaser.

Origin

The marble cake is a beloved treat that originated in Germany and became popular in many parts of Europe and the United States. The distinct swirl of vanilla and chocolate batter became a signature feature of this simple yet elegant dessert.

Ingredients Quantity

For the Cake:

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 ½ cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • ¼ cup boiling water

For the Chocolate Swirl:

  • ½ cup semi-sweet chocolate chips (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (for thinning the melted chocolate)

Ingredients Optional

  • ½ teaspoon almond extract (for added flavor depth)
  • 1 tablespoon coffee (to enhance the chocolate flavor)
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (for warmth)

Instructions

  1. Preheat & Prepare: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9-inch round or bundt cake pan.
  2. Mix Dry Ingredients: In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Set aside.
  3. Cream Butter & Sugar: In a large bowl, beat together butter and sugar until light and fluffy (about 3–4 minutes).
  4. Add Eggs & Vanilla: Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  5. Alternate Wet & Dry Ingredients: Gradually add the dry ingredients, alternating with the milk, starting and ending with the dry ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  6. Divide the Batter: Divide the batter evenly into two bowls. In one bowl, stir in melted chocolate chips and 1 tablespoon of milk. In the other bowl, leave the batter plain.
  7. Create the Marble Effect: Spoon alternating dollops of the vanilla and chocolate batters into the prepared pan. Use a knife or skewer to swirl the two batters together to create the marbled effect.
  8. Bake: Bake for 40–45 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean. Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips for Success

  • Don’t overmix the batter, as it can result in a denser cake.
  • For extra richness, add a tablespoon of sour cream or yogurt to the batter.
  • Be careful when swirling the batters; too many swirls will blend the vanilla and chocolate too much, losing the marble effect.

Recommendations

  • Dust with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate ganache for added sweetness.
  • Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or whipped cream for extra indulgence.
  • Pair with a hot cup of coffee or tea for a perfect treat.
