Grilled Ribeye Steak

Description:

Grilled Ribeye Steak is a juicy and flavorful cut of beef that’s perfect for any barbecue or dinner occasion. Known for its rich marbling and tender texture, ribeye steak becomes even more delicious when grilled to perfection. The outside forms a savory crust, while the inside remains juicy and full of flavor. Whether seasoned simply with salt and pepper or with a savory marinade, a grilled ribeye is a true treat for steak lovers.

Origin:

Ribeye steak, also known as the “Delmonico” steak, is a popular cut of beef from the rib section of the cow. Its name comes from the combination of “rib” and “eye,” referring to the central eye of meat surrounded by fat. Grilling is one of the best methods to prepare ribeye, as it enhances the rich flavor and tender texture of the meat.

Ingredients (Serves 2):

For the Ribeye Steak:

  • Ribeye steaks: 2 (each about 1-inch thick, 10-12 oz each)
  • Olive oil: 2 tbsp
  • Kosher salt: 1 ½ tsp
  • Freshly ground black pepper: 1 tsp
  • Garlic powder: ½ tsp
  • Fresh rosemary (optional): 2 sprigs (for added flavor)
  • Butter: 2 tbsp (for finishing)

Optional Marinade (for additional flavor):

  • Soy sauce: 2 tbsp
  • Worcestershire sauce: 1 tbsp
  • Garlic (minced): 2 cloves
  • Honey: 1 tsp
  • Red pepper flakes: A pinch (optional, for spice)

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Steak

  1. Season the Steaks: Pat the ribeye steaks dry with paper towels to remove excess moisture. Rub both sides of the steak with olive oil, then season generously with kosher salt, pepper, and garlic powder. If using rosemary, place a sprig on top of each steak for added flavor.
  2. Optional Marinade: For extra flavor, marinate the steaks for 30 minutes to 2 hours in a mixture of soy sauce, Worcestershire sauce, minced garlic, honey, and red pepper flakes.

Step 2: Preheat the Grill

  1. Preheat the Grill: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat, around 450°F (232°C). Make sure the grill grates are clean and lightly oiled to prevent sticking.

Step 3: Grill the Steaks

  1. Place the Steaks on the Grill: Once the grill is hot, place the steaks directly over the heat. Grill for 4-5 minutes per side for medium-rare, 5-6 minutes per side for medium, and 7-8 minutes per side for well-done. Use tongs to flip the steaks, and avoid pressing down on them to keep the juices intact.
  2. Add Butter and Rosemary: In the last 1-2 minutes of grilling, add a tablespoon of butter to each steak and place a sprig of rosemary on top. The butter will melt and enhance the flavor as it seeps into the steak.

Step 4: Rest the Steaks

  1. Rest Before Serving: Once the steaks are cooked to your desired doneness, remove them from the grill and allow them to rest for about 5 minutes. This helps redistribute the juices inside the meat, ensuring a tender and juicy steak.

Tips for Success:

  • Let the Steak Come to Room Temperature: Before grilling, let the steaks rest at room temperature for 20-30 minutes. This helps them cook more evenly.
  • Use a Meat Thermometer: For perfect doneness, use a meat thermometer. The ideal internal temperature for medium-rare is 130°F (54°C), for medium is 140°F (60°C), and for well-done is 160°F (71°C).
  • Avoid Overcooking: Ribeye steaks are best enjoyed medium-rare to medium. Overcooking can result in a dry texture, so keep an eye on the grill to avoid that.
  • Resting is Key: Letting the steak rest after grilling allows the juices to redistribute, making for a tender, flavorful bite.

Recommendations:

  • Pairing: Ribeye steaks pair wonderfully with grilled vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a simple green salad. A glass of red wine, such as Cabernet Sauvignon, complements the rich flavors of the steak.
  • Storage: Leftover ribeye can be stored in an airtight container in the fridge for 3-4 days. Reheat in the oven to preserve the tenderness.
