Italian Stromboli

Description:
An Italian Stromboli is a delicious, rolled pizza bursting with classic Italian flavors. Stuffed with savory meats, gooey cheese, and zesty marinara sauce, this easy-to-make dish is perfect for dinners, parties, or game-day snacking.

Ingredients

For the Dough:

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)

For the Filling:

  • 1/2 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 6 oz sliced pepperoni
  • 6 oz sliced salami
  • 6 oz sliced ham or prosciutto
  • 1 1/2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)

For the Topping:

  • 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 2 tablespoons grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Dough

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface into a rectangle about 12×16 inches.

Step 2: Add the Filling

  1. Spread marinara sauce evenly over the dough, leaving a 1-inch border around the edges.
  2. Layer the pepperoni, salami, and ham evenly over the sauce.
  3. Sprinkle mozzarella and Parmesan cheese over the meats.
  4. Add Italian seasoning and red pepper flakes for extra flavor.

Step 3: Roll and Seal the Stromboli

  1. Starting from one of the longer sides, carefully roll the dough into a tight log, tucking in the ends as you go.
  2. Pinch the seams and ends to seal the roll completely. Place it seam-side down on the prepared baking sheet.

Step 4: Add the Topping

  1. Brush the stromboli with the beaten egg.
  2. Sprinkle garlic powder, oregano, and grated Parmesan cheese over the top.

Step 5: Bake the Stromboli

  1. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
  2. Let it cool for 5-10 minutes before slicing into 1-inch thick pieces.

Tips for Success:

  • Customize the Fillings: Add sliced veggies like bell peppers or mushrooms for extra flavor.
  • Prevent Soggy Dough: Avoid overloading with sauce or moist ingredients.
  • Use a Pizza Stone: For an extra crispy crust, bake the stromboli on a preheated pizza stone.

Serving Recommendations:

  • Serve with warm marinara sauce for dipping.
  • Pair with a fresh Caesar salad or garlic bread for a complete Italian meal.
