Instructions:

1. Make the Cake:

  3. Add the buttermilk, vegetable oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix until just combined.
  4. Gradually stir in the boiling water. The batter will be thin—this is normal.
  5. Divide the batter evenly between the prepared pans.
  6. Bake for 30–35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  7. Let the cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.

2. Make the Frosting:

  1. In a large bowl, beat the butter until creamy.
  2. Gradually add the powdered sugar and cocoa powder, beating until smooth.
  3. Mix in the vanilla extract.
  4. Add the heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.

3. Assemble the Cake:

  1. Place one cake layer on a serving plate. Spread a thick layer of frosting on top.
  2. Place the second cake layer on top and frost the top and sides of the cake.
  3. Smooth the frosting or create swirls for a decorative finish.
